Westfield House International China Painting School was first established 20 years ago. What started out as a hobby has since grown into a family business, catering for the needs of the china painter all over the world.

It was in 1979 that Celia Shute bought her first kiln and began teaching a small group of students here at Westfield House, although she soon found herself more and more involved teaching at the local nightschool and doing demonstrations for interested art groups.

In 1980 Celia was invited to a Convention in Detroit, USA and was fascinated by all the people involved that shared the same interest, the china and the wonderful demonstrations and exhibits.

Back home it was decided to renovate Westfield House which, after months of careful thought and planning was ready to welcome the first International Seminar in the early 1980's. The Seminar attracted china painters from around the world, including Norway, New Zealand, Denmark, Australia and, of course, America. It was a great success and we have been running seminars at Westfield House ever since.

The magazine was started by Celia and began its life as a newsletter which Celia wrote and copied to interested parties. The 'newsletter' was in such demand that the time came to either give up or do something more positive with the 'news'. So in June 1984 the first colour magazine went out. The membership has gradually built up over the years and the magazine is now well established in its field with copies being posted out to 49 different countries. We are pleased to be able to cater for all the needs of the china painter whether you are interested in Seminars, magazine membership or even City and Guilds examinations. We also hold a very comprehensive range of supplies including brushes (china painting and watercolour), paints, palettes, books, and china in all shapes and sizes etc, which are all available here at Westfield House.

We hope that you enjoy visiting our web site and as it develops will find it an invaluable source of information that we are all able to share together in helping this wonderful art form grow.
